Join the Africana Studies Program’s 10-day educational tour of the Republic of South Africa, focusing on the unique pre- and post-apartheid history of the nation, as well as its natural wonders. In Johannesburg, visit the homes of Winnie Mandela and Desmond Tutu, and see Soweto, a startling example of segregationist planning. Next, the group will travel to Kruger National Park, one of the best-managed wildlife parks on the entire African continent, and spend a night at the Edeni Tented Bush Lodge, a private game reserve. Before departing for Cape Town, you’ll travel along the “Panorama Route,” and see wonders such as the majestic Blyde River Canyon. In Cape Town, the group will visit the Castle of Good Hope, Table Mountain, and Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, among other sites. The tour will also include Robben Island, a site of exile and isolation for nearly 400 years, and the maximum-security cell of Nelson Mandela. A detailed itinerary is available here.

Participants are welcomed to join with or without registering for academic credit.
